100% WaterproofTear-ProofWipe-CleanableNo Lamination NeededRush AvailableMade in USA Since 2004⚠ Heavier than regular paper
  • Waterproof substrate — polyester doesn't absorb water. No sealed edges, no delamination risk.
  • Tear-proof pages — the plastic matrix holds together even when wet, folded roughly, or handled with gloves.
  • Wipe-clean surface — soap, disinfectant wipes, or isopropyl alcohol won't damage the pages.
  • Lighter than lamination — no thick film sandwich. High-page-count booklets stay compact and manageable in the field.
  • Coil binding included — 360° page rotation, fully lay-flat opening. Portrait or landscape at no extra cost.
  • Full-color printing — polyester's smooth surface produces vivid, sharp print quality equal to coated paper.

Visual Guide

Each sheet = 2 pages (front & back). Count covers if paper; do not count clear/black vinyl.

Correct spiral binding safe zone example: text positioned 0.75 inches from punched edge providing comfortable reading space
Keep text/images ≥ 0.5″ from the binding edge; holes ≈ 0.75" in this example (≈19 mm).
Incorrect spiral binding layout: text too close to punched edge at 3/8 inch, causing uncomfortable reading and potential cutting
Content too close may be cut off, feel uncomfortable or be distorted at 3/8" or less (≈9 mm). Avoid crossing live text/images through the binding area.

What Is Synthetic Paper — and Why Does It Matter for Your Documents?

Standard paper is made from wood pulp, which absorbs liquid instantly. One rainstorm on a job site, one spill in a kitchen, one morning on a boat — and your booklet is ruined. Synthetic paper is made from polyester resin, extruded into sheets that look and feel like high-quality paper but behave like plastic. Water beads off. Ink stays put. Pages don't soften or tear.

We use polyester-based synthetic sheets — the most print-stable synthetic available. Unlike polypropylene (YUPO-style) or cheaper cavitated films, polyester holds toner with exceptional adhesion and delivers color accuracy that rivals standard coated paper. The waterproof property is built into the material itself — not a coating on top.

Waterproof Substrate

Polyester doesn't absorb water. Protection comes from the material itself — no laminate film, no sealed edges, nothing to peel or delaminate over time.

Tear-Proof Pages

The plastic matrix resists tearing even when wet, folded roughly, or pulled at a corner. Pages won't fray or degrade after hundreds of page turns.

Wipe-Cleanable

Wipe pages with a damp cloth, soap and water, disinfectant wipes, or isopropyl alcohol. The surface cleans instantly — essential for food service and healthcare field use.

Vibrant Print Quality

The smooth polyester surface produces full-color prints with sharp detail and accurate color — equal to or better than standard coated paper on most digital presses.

🛡️

Optional Upgrade: UV Coating for Maximum Ink Protection

Synthetic paper protects the substrate — pages won't absorb water. UV coating adds a clear protective layer over the printed ink itself, preventing scuffing, grease penetration, and the effects of harsh cleaning agents. Best for booklets wiped down multiple times daily — commercial kitchen manuals, healthcare protocols, marine safety guides, or any booklet exposed to solvents. Currently available as a custom quote option.

Synthetic Paper vs. Lamination vs. Regular Paper

There are three ways to produce a waterproof booklet. Each has trade-offs. For most multi-page field and reference booklets, synthetic paper is the clear winner — but here's the full picture.

Feature ✦ Synthetic Paper
(This Product)
Regular Paper
+ Sealed Laminate
Standard Paper
No Treatment
Water resistant✓ Fully✓ With sealed edges✗ No
Tear resistant✓ Very high~ Moderate✗ Low
Wipe-cleanable✓ Yes~ Partially✗ No
Booklet bulk / weight✓ Compact✗ Much thicker & heavier✓ Compact
Practical for high page counts✓ Yes — up to 100 pages✗ Becomes unwieldy✓ Yes
Cost for 20+ page booklets✓ Most economical✗ Expensive at scale✓ Least expensive
Works with coil binding✓ Ideal~ Requires wider margin✓ Yes
Risk of delamination✓ None — no film layer✗ Edges can peel over time✓ None

Bottom line: Lamination was the standard before synthetic paper existed. For multi-page field booklets, synthetic paper produces a thinner, lighter, more durable result at lower cost — and handles high page counts without becoming a thick, heavy brick.

Paper Thickness Guide — Which Mil to Choose

Synthetic paper is measured in mil (thousandths of an inch) — not pounds like regular paper. Thicker mil = stiffer, more rigid sheet.

5
mil
Flexible / Lightweight

Best for high-page-count booklets (60–100 pages). Use for interior pages only — semi-transparent when held to light.

8
mil
★ Most Popular — Interior

Go-to for interior pages. Opaque, substantial feel, turns easily. Works well for field manuals and training guides up to 60 pages.

11
mil
★ Most Popular — Cover

Standard cover choice. Noticeable stiffness upgrade. Can also be used for all pages on shorter booklets (under 30 pages).

14
mil
Premium / Heavy Cover

Maximum rigidity. Best for covers on booklets that live in truck cabs, tool bags, or any environment with regular rough handling.

Most common configuration: 8 mil interior pages + 11 or 14 mil cover. Best balance of flexibility, weight, and durability. We confirm the right thickness for your project before production.

Why Coil Binding Is the Only Practical Choice for Synthetic Paper

Synthetic plastic sheets resist folding — ruling out saddle-stitch booklets. Perfect binding requires glue that doesn't hold reliably on plastic. Coil binding threads mechanically through punched holes — no folding, no glue.

1
Printing & Collating

All interior pages, covers, and optional clear front / black back covers are printed full-color and assembled in sequence. Double-sided printing is standard.

2
Hole Punching

A heavy-duty punch creates evenly-spaced round holes (approx. 5/32") along the binding edge at 4:1 pitch. Minimum live content margin: 0.5" from the binding edge.

3
Coil Insertion & Crimping

The plastic coil threads through all punched holes, then is crimped on both ends. Result: 360° page rotation and fully flat lay-open at any page.

Landscape format available: Coil binding allows portrait or landscape at no extra cost. Landscape opens to a viewing area up to 8.5" × 22" — ideal for maps, wide diagrams, and visual SOPs. The largest single sheet is 11" × 17", opening to a full 11" × 34" spread.

Frequently Asked Questions

Regular paper is wood pulp — it absorbs water because the fibers are porous. Synthetic paper is made from polyester resin, which is a plastic. Plastic doesn't absorb water; it repels it. The waterproof property is part of the material itself — not a coating applied over regular paper. There are no edges to delaminate, no film to peel, no way for water to get into the substrate. The ink, however, is not inherently waterproof — for applications involving harsh cleaning chemicals, UV coating provides an extra layer of ink protection.

Yes — the polyester surface handles all of the following safely:

  • Soap and water
  • Standard disinfectant wipes (Lysol, Clorox)
  • Isopropyl alcohol (70%)
  • Damp cloth with mild cleaning agents

For booklets wiped with strong solvents or harsh industrial cleaners daily, UV coating adds a protective layer over the printed ink. Ask us about this option when requesting your quote.

Synthetic plastic sheets resist folding. Saddle-stitch booklets require pages folded in half at the spine — synthetic paper won't accept that fold cleanly. Perfect binding requires adhesive glue on the spine, and most adhesives don't hold reliably on a plastic surface. Coil binding threads through punched holes and crimps mechanically — no folding, no glue. It works with plastic sheets at any page count, allows 360° page rotation, and lays completely flat when open.

For most field manuals with 20–60 pages, the standard configuration is:

  • Interior pages: 8 mil — opaque, easy to turn, doesn't add excessive weight
  • Cover: 11 or 14 mil — rigid protection for truck cabs, tool bags, rough daily handling

For 80–100 page booklets, consider 5 mil interior pages to reduce weight — but always use a thicker cover. The 5 mil sheet is semi-transparent and only appropriate for interior pages.

Yes — landscape and portrait are both available at no extra cost. Standard sizes:

  • 8.5" × 11" — portrait, most common
  • 5.5" × 8.5" — half-letter, compact field guide format
  • 11" × 8.5" — landscape, opens to 11" × 17" viewing area
  • 11" × 17" sheet — opens to a full 11" × 34" spread for maps and large diagrams

Custom sizes are available — contact us to discuss your project requirements.

Yes. We can add up to 5 custom-printed tabs on the 11" side of the booklet — useful for training manuals and reference guides with multiple sections. This is a custom add-on not yet in the online calculator. Call us at 1-877-421-0668 to include tabs in your quote.

  • File format: PDF, CMYK color mode, 300 DPI images
  • Page setup: Export as single pages (not spreads)
  • Bleed: 0.125" on all sides where artwork runs to the edge
  • Binding edge margin: Keep all text and critical content at least 0.5" from the binding edge
  • Page count: Count every side — front cover, all interior sides, back cover. Must be an even number.

Our team reviews every file before it goes to production. We'll flag issues and contact you before printing anything.

Same-day production is available for qualifying orders — contact us to confirm availability for your quantity and configuration. Everything is produced in-house at our Oakland Park, Florida facility, so we have direct control over turnaround with no third-party delays. Standard turnaround options appear in the calculator when you configure your job.

We recommend adding them for booklets in rough environments — truck cabs, tool bags, marine vessels, outdoor packs. The clear polypropylene front protects your printed cover from scratches without hiding the artwork. The black vinyl back provides a rigid backing that prevents the booklet from bowing. Both are selectable in the calculator and meaningfully extend the working life of the booklet.
